1841 Apr 1, 1841, appearance of co-partnership notice in Prov. Journal announcing that Isaac S. Battey & James A. Eddy have entered into business as "Battey & Eddy", Hardware Merchants & Plane Manuf., "and taken the store at #5 Broad Street, Providence, RI, where they intend keeping a general assortment of Hardware, Planes and Joiner's Tools"  [ see Battey & Eddy ]

1843 Prov. Almanac  - Isaac Battey gives his work address as Dyer Street.  As this information may have been gathered in 1842, it is apparent that the firm of "Battey and Eddy" was short lived. Both the co-partnership notice and hardware advertisement ran in the Prov. journal for only 6 months, and it's possible that  "Battey & Eddy" lasted as briefly as this.

1844 Prov. Almanac  - Isaac lists himself as a planemaker, working at the same address as Tallman & Bucklin, a large firm that made blinds & sash, dealt in lumber, box making, engraving to calico, architectural drafting and planing.  Isaac likely occupied a portion of the second floor as J. E. Child, planemaker, later gives the second floor of this same address as his working location.

*Note: Called himself a planemaker until about 1849-1850
